This rupture stems from Cairo’s serial diplomatic and geopolitical affronts – climaxing in a grassroots Saudi campaign demanding:

• Suspension of Egyptian labour visas

• Boycott of Egyptian tourism ($1.2BN annual Saudi spend)

• Ban on Egyptian imports ($4.3BN trade deficit)
